OpenAI has been causing a stir recently with its AI-generated content. One major example of this is the CGBT chatbot, a customer service bot that uses OpenAI to answer frequently asked questions, provide product information, and even help customers complete transactions.
Naturally, our content team was curious, so we used OpenAI to help write the first draft of this blog post! We were pretty impressed. The AI-generated content was grammatically correct, made sense (mostly), and generally provided the information that we asked it for, as long as the questions were specific enough.
The tone of the content was, well, a little robotic. Much of the same information was repeated multiple times in almost the exact same words, and it took a lot of editing and rewriting to create a blog post that flowed well, provided all of the information we wanted to convey, and matched our brand’s tone.
AI-generated content works by using natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to generate content that is similar to human-written content and gathers its information from a variety of sources, including research papers, public datasets, and simulations.
Here is a quick breakdown of the benefits and possible drawbacks of AI-generated content.
Benefits
- AI-generated content can increase efficiency, allowing businesses to produce more content in less time
- Increased efficiency translates to cost savings
- AI can be used to provide better customer service, such as with the CGBT chatbot
Drawbacks
- There are concerns about copyright infringement because AI can pull from pre-existing works, including visual art and written content
- While AI-generated content and the CGBT chatbot can create useful content, that content is generally cut-and-dry and does not provide an original take
- AI-generated content lacks context and can be confusing without additional editing
AI content generators are clearly a powerful tool that can be used as an effective way to create outlines, form ideas, save time when creating all kinds of content, and the CGPT chatbot is a great example of that. The trick is to use the bot to your advantage, but remember to add a human touch as well.
Try it out for yourself and see what you think! But if you decide that AI content just isn’t for your brand and you still want that human element, our content team is ready to get writing for you today!
